The legend says that Lord Muruga was born as six different babies. And he was looked after by the six Krittika stars. Later, Goddess Parvati combined all as a single baby with six head. There are many variations to this legend. Being happy with the 6 Krittika ladies Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati granted them with the boon. Hence special poojas for Muruga is held on every Krittika nakshatra.
