True penance lies in controlling one’s emotions, thoughts, words and deeds arising out of Sathwic, Rajasic and Thamasic qualities. A noble person is one whose thoughts, words and deeds are in complete harmony (Manasyekam Vachasyekam Karmanyekam Mahatmanam). We should discharge our duty with utmost sincerity and to the best of our abilities. Having done our duty if we leave the rest to Him, with full faith and have the ability to accept things and situations which are not under our control, we can develop equanimity and inner joy.  Many times we practise sadhanas or spiritual practises to calm our mind. It is not just enough to be calm during the time of meditation, we should apply that to our daily activities. Small trivial things trigger anger and impatience in us. Our spiritual practises should reflect on our day to day conduct. The day we are able to overcome these weaknesses in us, we are moving ahead in our spiritual journey.
