One of the most popular and well known shloka from the Bhagavad Geeta is

Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshu kada chana –

Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani

The true meaning of  this sloka is that one has the freedom to choose any action he or she performs, but does not have control over the results or consequences. One can be happy if one learns to accept whatever we get as a prasadam. When we visit a temple and take some milk for abhishekam or fruits to offer, we have freedom to do so, but we do not have the freedom to bring back whatever we have offered, whatever the priest of the temple returns to us, we accept it so happily as a prasadam. We didnt actually get whatever we gave, but we were happy receiving whatever we got back considering it as a prasadam. If we learn to accept whatever life has to offer us as prasadam, we can be more balanced and also improve our relationships with the people around us. Acceptance reduces suffering. Great saints or avatars had this high quality of acceptance like Jesus and Krishna and that is why they became such great souls. As our love for God increases, the power of acceptance also increases. There are some things which are beyond our control and if we learn to accept that, we can be more happy and peaceful person. So let us all remember that we should keep trying and working hard and perform our duty to the best of our abilities and leave the rest to God. He knows what is right for us.
