Those who invest atleast 20% of their time in holy thoughts, prayers or such activities are able to face calamities with more equanimity than the others who are totally engaged in worldly thoughts. However much we are involved in the world, atleast at the end of the day realise the eternal truth that God or the Divine conscious is the only truth and is permanent. Direct your mind slowly from Prakriti (Cosmic or worldly) to Purusha (The consciousness). The ways or qualities needed to uplift ourselves are to develop a sense of forgiveness, control of indriyas and accept everything in your life as God’s gifts, develop love in speech and action and a sense of sacrifice and an attitude to accept our mistakes.
